SWISS-JAPAN ENERGY DAYS 2024: COLLABORATION ON BREAKTHROUGH INNOVATIONS FOR FUTURE SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

The Swiss-Japan Energy Days 2024 conference, scheduled for September 10-11, 2024, at ETH Zürich and Swissnex in Japan, is set to address the pressing challenges in the energy sectors of both countries. Dr. Felix Moesner: With the current combined energy and climate crisis, it is crucial to address the challenges facing our energy sectors. Switzerland and Japan, both heavily reliant on energy imports, need to find sustainable solutions to achieve the net zero target for greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This event focuses on breakthrough innovations in renewable energy, seasonal storage, and international energy market connections. By bringing together top experts, startups, and policymakers, we aim to foster collaboration and develop strategies that ensure a secure and sustainable energy supply.

How does the event in Zurich work?
The conference will be held simultaneously at ETH Zürich and Swissnex in Japan. On the first day, the focus will be on market developments and renewable energy, with keynote speeches from leaders in the field, academic insights, startup pitches, and industrial perspectives. The second day will emphasize storage solutions and advancements in renewable energy, featuring talks from prominent scholars, startup presentations, and industrial insights. The event will include panel discussions and networking sessions to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange.

What is the expected outcome?
We aim to achieve tangible results by enabling new collaboration opportunities between Switzerland and Japan in energy research and innovation. The conference will convene 30 speakers and game-changing startups to exchange best practices, breakthrough research trends, and policy approaches for sustainable energy supplies. We hope to define key topics for next year’s conference during World Expo 2025 in Osaka (Swiss pavilion) and create a roadmap for future collaborations.

What happens next?
Following the conference, we plan to continue the dialogue and collaboration initiated during the Swiss-Japan Energy Days 2024. The event is part of the broader „Swiss Vitality Days 2024“ which will engage multiple stakeholders from September to October 2024. This platform will explore solutions for a vitalized future in health, sustainability, and innovation, fostering common prosperity on the road to Expo 2025.
