The new Energy-Economy-Society and Electricity calls are online

Two research programmes of the Federal Office of Energy have published new calls. One of the call topics is a collaboration between the two programmes.

The Energy – Economy – Society (EES/EWG) research programme promotes application-oriented research in the field of energy policy. To this end the EES focuses on economic, social, psychological and political issues throughout the energy sector supply chain. EES elaborates calls to fund innovative socio-economic research projects that address relevant energy-policy questions for Switzerland.

The 2025-2026 edition focuses on the research fields of:

  • efficient integration of renewables in the Swiss energy system,
  • incentivising investments into energy efficiency in buildings,
  • economic impact of energy and climate policies,
  • and the role of consumers in the Swiss green energy transition.

The Electricity research programme addresses strategically relevant research aspects across the entire electricity supply chain, from electricity production to transmission and distribution and consumption. By combining technological innovation, digital transformation and international networking, it lays the foundation for a sustainable and efficient further development of the electricity system and electricity use.

The recent call focuses on the topics of:

  • efficient integration of renewables in the Swiss energy system,
  • demand flexibility,
  • power quality and stability,
  • converter-driven end-use equipment for grid support,
  • power electronics,
  • and digitalization.

The topic “efficient integration of renewables in the Swiss energy system” is a collaboration between the two research programmes and has both a technical and a social science component.

The calls follow a two-stage submission and evaluation procedure. The deadline for submission of the pre-proposal is 16 February 2026. Selected research projects are expected to start between August 2026 and the beginning of 2027.

Details can be found in the call text on the EES and the Electricity Websites.
